Barbara Ann Corcoran

Barbara Ann Corcoran was a speaker, investor, and businesswoman from the United States. She co-founded The Corcoran Group, a real estate brokerage located in New York City, which she sold to NRT for $66 million in 2001 and shortly after, she left the company. Corcoran has participated in 12 of ABC's Shark Tank seasons. Corcoran had signed 53 contracts until February, 2020. Her biggest deal was her $350,000 investment in Coverplay for 40%. Corcoran was born in Edgewater (New Jersey) as the second child of ten from a working-class Irish Catholic family.  Her mother, Florence, was a household worker. Edwin W. Corcoran Jr. was her father. He was a mover from one job to the next during Corcoran’s childhood. Her family sometimes depended on food delivery for free from a friendly local grocery store. Corcoran states her father was a drunk who treated her mother with disrespectful and disrespect. Corcoran had difficulty in school, and was later told that she had dyslexia. Corcoran went to a Catholic elementary school in her community and began the high school year in St. Cecilia High School, Englewood. After flunking several courses during her first year of high school, Corcoran transferred to Leonia High School and graduated as a D student.
